1MDB wasn’t why I quit Cabinet, says Husni

KUALA
LUMPUR, July 7 — Tambun MP Datuk Seri Husni Hanadzlah has denied claims
that his resignation from all government posts, including as second
finance minister, was prompted by the controversies cloaking state-owned
 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
The
Umno lawmaker said he had wanted to retire from politics for some time
now and finally left the federal Cabinet when he learnt he may be moved
out of the Finance Ministry in the latest reshuffle, Utusan Malaysia
Online reported today.
“1MDB
has nothing to do with my resignation because I have wanted to retire
for some time now. This is the problem, when you retire, everyone says
this must be the problem,” he was quoted by the Malay daily as telling
reporters during his Raya open house in his Sg Rokam, Perak home.
“I
have no problems with the Prime Minister, the Cabinet and the party.
This is my own decision. I told myself I will retire, I just did not
know when,” he added.
Husni
said he left the Cabinet prematurely before the 14th general elections
because Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had wanted to transfer him
 to a different portfolio.
“But
he had his own ideas and transferred me to a different ministry. I told
him I did not want that. So I asked him to drop me and that my decision
 is final,” he added.
He also denied that he will join former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad or opposition parties.
“I will not join Mahathir or opposition parties because I believe life in politics has an end point,” he said.
He said that following his retirement, he will focus more on religion.
Najib,
in his latest Cabinet reshuffle on June 27, said Husni had opted to
retire. He is succeeded by Datuk Johari Abdul Ghani who was formerly a
deputy minister.
Husni also quit all his Umno positions subsequently and is now an ordinary Umno member.
